Just 24km from Wanganui lies the magnificent remnant of lowland rain forest that is Bushy Park.  Bequeathed to Forest & Bird by the late GF Moore in 1962, Bush Park has been diligently cared for by a local Trust which has seen the erection of an X-cluder Pest Proof Fence around the Park, the forest now cleared of introduced predators and the hundred year old Homestead lovingly maintained.
Today a healthy, regenerated forest is home to a growing number of native birds including, the very rare and beautiful Saddleback (Tieke), Kiwi, Bush Robin, Native Pigeon (Kereru), Morepork, Tui, Bellbird, NZ Falcon, Tomtit and others.
The forest includes a number of giant trees, among them 'Ratanui', NZ's largest northern Rata.  Well formed tracks provide visitors with easy access to the bush and birds.

About the Trust Established in 1994 the Bushy Park trust is administered by a core of volunteers. Objectives of the Trust are: - The preservation and enhancement of the 90ha forest by ridding it of all predators. - The enhancement of native bird life and the introduction of rare and endangered species once found there. - To provide the opportunity for public education, recreation and enjoyment of the Homestead and forest. - To provide in the Homestead a facility of accommodation and entertainment. - To provide an education programme for students.  Currently over 2000 students participate annually. Bequests
There is no better legacy New Zealanders can leave than to help to preserve for posterity our unique forests and birds.

At Bushy Park Sanctuary one can wander among the forest giants over 800 years old and listen to and see birds so rare that most New Zealanders have never seen or heard of them.

One way you can help preserve this piece of old NZ is to leave a bequest to the Trust as it seeks to establish an endowment fund, thus enabling the Sanctuary to Operate in a secure and ongoing manner.

A bequest to the Sanctuary is a precious gift - your support helps us ensure an enduring legacy for generations to come - for your children, grand-children and great-grandchildren so that they can enjoy, and learn about, New Zealand's natural heritage.

To find out more about making a bequest and how your gift will benefit the Sanctuary, please contact the Trust's Treasurer for a confidential discussion.

How do I join? For further information or to apply to become a Sanctuary Volunteer please call the Sanctuary Volunteer Co-ordinator on phone 06 348 7771 or email info@bushyparksanctuary.org.nz
